Aiwa / Welcome to the Aiwai board!
« on: September 01, 2016, 02:03:03 PM »
Aiwa makes the Exos-9, a large, semi-portable bluetooth speaker with 200 watts and 5 speaker drivers.  While not as portable as smaller speakers it has the loudness, power and sound quality to fill a large room or hall with great sound.  Feel free to discuss any Exos-9 topics in this board.  If Aiwa comes out with additional speakers this will be the home board for all Aiwa bluetooth speakers.  Aiwa has a website dedicated to just the Exos-9 here: https://aiwa.co/

Xiaomi / Anyone else own a Xiaomi Mi Speaker?
« on: September 01, 2016, 12:46:46 AM »
I picked up a Xiaomi Mi speaker after seeing ClavinetJunkie's review on Youtube.  Really like it as it's very small with good lower bass response for such a tiny speaker.  Also, it's rock solid in build with that aluminum shell.  I got the gold one but am thinking of buying another in blue.  Might pick up several of these for gifts this holiday season.  At under or around $40 on Ebay it's a steal and the best price for the Xiaomi Mi bluetooth speaker.  Anyone looking for a really good, candy bar sized bluetooth speaker should pick one up.

Here it is in blue: Xiaomi Mi Speaker in Blue

You can also pick it up in gold or pink here:  Xiaomi Mi Speaker in Gold, Pink or Blue

Photive / Photive S1
« on: September 01, 2016, 12:40:55 AM »
I bought a Photive S1 about a month back and thought it was a decent sounding speaker with a nice soundscape produced.  I felt the bass could have been a bit deeper considering the size so I ended up returning it to get a Charge 3.  But to be honest, I think the stereo separation and 'soundscape' was better on the S1.  Anyone else tried one?  They've since dropped the price from $69.95 to $49.95.  At that price I'm thinking of picking another one up.

Just did a review on an interesting bluetooth speaker I picked up recently by a company called 'Music Angel'.  The Music Angel model # JH-MD13BT2 is a cylindrical shaped bluetooth speaker about 6 inches long by 1.5 inches diameter.  What makes it interesting to me and the reason I picked one up was that while it is basically the same form factor as the JBL Flip, it features a design that is reversed.  instead of the bass radiators being on the end with the active drivers in the center the drivers are at the ends with a single bass radiator in the center.  This design enables larger drivers at the end...the company claims they are 52mm...which are actually a tad bigger than the JBL Charge 3's 50mm...and definitely larger than the Flip's 40mm drivers.  It also features SD card support, speaker phone and can be used as a charger due to its nice sized 1800Ah battery.  So how does it sound?  Watch the video above to find out.  If you want to pick one up after you can do so at the link below.  At $26.99 on Amazon it's a nice addition to my speaker collection.

JBL / Bought a JBL Charge 3 but torn about sound quality
« on: August 31, 2016, 08:01:49 PM »
So I bought a Charge 3 but I'm a little torn how I feel about it.  On the one hand it has great deep and powerful bass but the highs really seem to lack that 'sparkle' that I like and that a dedicated tweeter would provide.   I also think that because the drivers are so close together that it lacks a lot in any kind of stereo effect.  Even some speakers less than half the price seem to have better stereo separate.   I like the durability and overall design and of course...that bass....

What are your thoughts?   What would you for a JBL Charge 4 to make it better?  Dedicated tweeters?  Redesign to somehow move the drivers farther apart?  Your thoughts?

Denon / New Denon Envaya or Envaya Mini coming?
« on: August 31, 2016, 07:57:57 PM »
As a big fan of the Denon Envaya Mini that's been out for a couple of years now I was wondering if anyone's heard any talk of a sequel coming out.  Denon Envaya Mini 2 anyone?  With that in mind, how could they improve the current Envaya Mini?  Larger bass radiator for even more bass?  addition of a tweeter or a re-tuning that gives brighter highs?   Better battery is a definite since this is an area where it has struggled a bit.  Any thoughts out there from other Envaya Mini or Envaya owners?

Picked up a Trendwoo Rockman L recently with different branding...called a Kedsum but identical in every way.  I'll be doing a review of it shortly.  Nice speaker for the price...very loud with some decent bass and a rugged, small water resistant form factor.

Bluetooth Speaker Help / Welcome to the Bluetooth Speaker Help Board

This board is for general help with any questions related to using your bluetooth speaker that doesn't fit into one of the branded boards below.   Feel free to ask anything.  No question is too simple.  That's what we're here for!

So right after I ordered my Xiaomi Mi speaker off of Gearbest.com, I came across this Z8 on both Amazon and Ebay made by a company called Uchoir.   It turns out the Z8 is a generic speaker made in Shenzhen, China and is basically a copy or clone of the Xiaomi Mi right down to the unibody aluminum frame, similar grill pattern and white plastic ends.  Functionality is the same too with speakerphone and SD card support.  Specs differ slightly with 5 watts each for the two 40mm drivers and a passive bass radiator in the center.  The Xiaomi Mi has 3W each for 36mm drivers...but they are liquid cooled and the bass radiator is larger than in the Z8.  Price for the Z8 when I bought it was $23.99 compared to about $37 I got the Xiaomi Mi for.  So how does it sound?  Listen to the video above to give me your impression and feel free to leave comments below.
